Cut trunks that are supported on one end from underneath to one-third through the trunk; finish by cutting from the top down to meet the underside cut. By using a grinder you can get the tree all the way down to ground level and even below it a few inches. 8. Pull the tree out. Another method that you can use for tree removal is to pull the tree out. This should be done with some mechanical help, like from a truck or a tractor, chains, and some shovels. Drill a large hole through the tree about six inches from the top of the stump, and then insert the chain through that hole. This will allow you to attach the chain to the stump and pull it out with the tractor or truck. Dig around the tree and cut as many of the roots as you can find, since they will extra strength to keep the tree where it is. Begin pulling the tree out with the chain and the truck, but be sure that no one is near the chain as you do this. If the chain snaps it can easily hurt or kill someone.
